Circuit de Monaco is a street circuit in Monte Carlo, Monaco. It has a length of 3,340 km with 18 turns. The circuit is often referred to as Monte Carlo Circuit and known as the venue for the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.
The circuit is narrow with many elevation changes and tight corners, which makes it one of the most demanding circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. It is considered to be the ultimate test for drivers’ skills. It has both one of the slowest (Loews hairpin) as one of the fastest (tunnel kink) turns on the Formula 1 calendar. Due to the tight and twisty nature of the track, Nelson Piquet has compared racing on the Monaco circuit to riding a bike in a living room.
The most famous feature of Circuit de Monaco is the tunnel section that runs underneath the Fairmont Hotel. This is a difficult part for the drivers who have to switch between light and darkness very fast. The track offers very little overtaking opportunities.
Besides the F1 Moncao Grand Prix, the circuit also hosts Formula 2, Formula 3000 and GP2. |
