The Hungaroring is located near the town of Mogyorod in Hungary. It has a length of 4,381 km with 16 turns and hosts the annual Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Hungaroring is primarily known for the lack of overtaking opportunities. This was shown during the 1990 Hungarian Grand Prix when Thierry Boutsen was leading the entire race with a trail of cars behind him, including the one of Ayrton Senna. A good qualification is important on this circuit.
Drivers’ opinions about this circuit are various. While drivers such as Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso have said to appreciate the circuit, others find it slow and demanding. The circuit is loved among spectators, but not that much among drivers. It is one of the safest circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. One of the turns is named after Nigel Mansell.
The Hungarian Grand Prix on the Hungaroring is still the only Formula 1 Grand Prix in Eastern Europe. |
